How to Make Old-Fashioned Doughnuts

Craving those classic cake doughnuts from your childhood? You can make them at home easily! 

Gather flour sugar baking powder nutmeg eggs sour cream, and oil

Mix the dry ingredients

In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg by whisking them together. 

Cream the butter and sugar

Butter and sugar should be creamed together in a separate basin until the mixture is frothy and light. 

Add the wet ingredients

Beat in the eggs and sour cream one at a time, then mix in the dry ingredients. 

Chill the dough

Put the dough in the refrigerator for at least an hour with the lid on.

Roll and cut the dough

Roll out the dough and cut into rings using a doughnut cutter or biscuit cutter.

Heat the oil for frying

Heat oil in a large pot to 350°F (175°C). 

Fry the doughnuts

Carefully add a few doughnuts at a time and fry for 2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
